Aston Martin Unveils the Monstrous DBX S

Aston Martin DBX S

The new Aston Martin DBX S is a the flagship of the DBX line and is one of the rare “supercar” SUVs.

Aston Martin has unveiled the all-new DBX S flagship, which uses the dynamics of the DBX707 and an engine enhanced with technology from the Valhalla supercar. Packed in an incredible design and offers some of the most engaging and response-driving experiences that deliver more power, reduce weight, and turn up the aggressive design to 11.

The new DBX S continues the tradition of Aston Martin’s utilization of the ‘S’ suffix to denote the high-performance version of a model. The tradition began with the Vanquish S that made its public debut more than 20 years ago at the Paris Motor Show in 2004. The DBX S is a continued effort of producing lighter variants with more power and higher performance.

The new DBX S's engine is an upgraded version of the critically acclaimed Aston Martin 4.0-Litre Twin-Turbo V8. The new engine uses turbo technology directly from the Valhalla Hypercar, including the larger compressor wheel diameters and other internal improvements. This results in a power improvement of 20PS to 727PS, providing greater urgency at the very top of the rev range, bringing supercar performance to the SUV.

Additionally, the DBX S adds a modified exhaust system that amplifies even more character from the thunderous V8 engine and exploits the full breadth of the engine’s turbo enhancements to further both performance and its perception.

As with the DBX707, the DBX S distributes power between the front and rear wheels in variable proportion. Including the ability to send 50% of its torque to the front and up to 100% to the rear wheels alone. This is done through an innovative 9-speed ‘wet-clutch’ transmission, eliminating the need for a conventional torque converter. The gearbox has also been further modified by adjusting change-up points to reflect the car’s extended rev range, while downshifts in Sport and Sport+ modes have been adjusted to be even more aggressive.

Perhaps most impressive for a modern-day vehicle, the DBX S has reduced weight. Aston Martin worked very hard to reduce the weight in unique ways, such as the inclusion of the new optional carbon fibre roof, presented in a single weave pattern, almost three square meters, and the largest carbon element ever fitted to an Aston Martin. Adding this element reduces weight and does so at the very top of the vehicle, which helps reduce its center of gravity and thus enhances both stability and agility.

For the first time in the segment, Magnesium wheels are now available as an option on the DBX S in 23” and reduce weight by a further 19kg (42lbs). Additionally, Aston Martin offers 23” forged aluminum wheels as standard. However, like the Carbon Fibre roof, adding these options eliminates roof rails. While less practical, it does further reduce weight. Customers can also opt for a bespoke lightweight polycarbonate honeycomb grille that is designed with over 25,000 individual facets, further reducing weight and shifting the weight distribution rearward.

The DBX S's steering ratio has also improved by 4%, which has a noticeable impact on the car's agility and improves its sporting and responsiveness. This also reduces the turning circle by almost half a meter to just 12.0. Helping out customers who live in tight cities.

DBS X benefits from the suspension enhancements introduced last year, which included a revised calibration of the air springs and electronic dampers. Even at the DBX S’ limit, its standard electronic roll control means the car rolls by no more than 1.5º, keeping the DBX S flatter than many purpose-built, two-seat sports cars.

Visually, the Aston Martin team worked hard to ensure that no one mistakes the DBX S for anything other than a supercar flagship. The new front uses a pure black vaned grille, and the optional polycarbonate grille with a honeycomb design takes inspiration from the DBS 770 Ultimate. A new splitter and diffuser enhance the car’s naturally assertive presence alongside the wraparound daytime running light design.

The new side sills boast highly distinctive up-turned air splitters that help channel and direct the airflow along the side of the car. Carbon fibre is available for the wing mirrors, side strakes, and lower door sills. Additionally, there is a distinctive ‘S’ signature badge on the front fenders. In the same fashion as the iconic Aston Martin Wings, these badges are manufactured in solid metal, glass enamelled with the ‘S’ infilled in red as a nod to previous models such as the V12 Vantage S and the Rapide S. The badge surround is chrome plated and can be ordered either in bright or dark chrome to match the color of the wings.

Visually, the most obvious changes are at the rear where quad exhausts are now vertically stacked and available in both gloss and matt finishes. The rear bumper and diffuser have been completely reprofiled and can now be ordered with carbon to reduce the weight by a further 7kg (15lbs), along with the side sills and wing.

Also available is a new lower livery design in 3 colors: Rosso Corsa Red, Trophy Silver, and Podium Green. These new liveries highlight the front splitter, diffuser, and side sills.

The interior continues the ‘S’ theme with a distinctive herringbone design that is standard on the seats and extends to the headlining, with the optional Carbon roof added. The herringbone lines become increasingly wider as they progress up the seat, giving them a sense of increasing speed. The DBX S is trimmed as standard in lightweight Alcantara on the seats, headlining, centre console, lower instrument panels, and upper trim. In areas prone to high wear, the Alcantara is blended with semi-aniline leather. However, the DBX S can be trimmed entirely in semi-aniline leather for customers looking for a little more luxury.

The ‘S’ suffix is embroidered on the seat and complemented by the Aston Martin wings emblazoned on the headrests with an industry-first technique that uses both embossing and debossing to sculpt the wings into the leather in sub-millimetre precision. The ‘S’ also appears on the treadplates and engine plaque.

‘S’ has been associated with Aston Martin now for 2 decades, and now the DBX S has proven that lighter variants with more power and performance are still very much a part of Aston’s history. The DBX S is available for order now, and deliveries are expected to begin in Q4 2025.
