Porsche Announces Three New Additional 911 Variants
Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe, 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet, 911 Targa 4S
Porsche is expanding the 911 model range with three all-wheel drive variants for the 2026 model year, including the 911 Carrera 4S coupe, 911 4S Cabriolet, and the 911 Targa 4S. All three models feature power gains, improved standard equipment, and enhanced brakes compared to the previous generation.
Porsche is reintroducing the 4S to the 911 lineup and launching all three body styles simultaneously. The 4S models are the middle ground between the standard rear-wheel-drive Carrera Models and the sportier GTS models. The all-wheel drive models are particularly popular with U.S. customers, as Porsche notes that half of U.S. sales for “S” models are all-wheel drive (4S).

Improved Performance
The all-new 4S models receive the same upgraded engine as the recent facelifted Carrera S, which features a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine that produces 473 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. This represents a 30hp bump over the previous generation 4S models. The increase in performance is partially due to the optimized intercooling design, which comes from the 911 Turbo models. The new engine is paired with an eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK), which also enables the 911 Carrera 4S Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds using launch control. Top speed is 191mph.
Upgrades to Standard Equipment
911 Carrera 4S
Porsche is significantly enhancing the standard equipment for the Carrera 4S and Targa 4S models. In terms of performance, the Sport Exhaust with silver tailpipes, brakes from the previous generation GTS models, and upgraded dampers with optimized hydraulics are now standard on the 4S models. These new standard features already add to the previous generation’s list, which included Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), as well as staggered 20/21-inch Carrera S wheels.
As an option, Porsche offers the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) and PASM Sport Suspension, which lowers the ride height by 10 mm. On the Carrera 4S and Carrera 4S Cabriolet, Porsche offers rear axle steering, which enhances agility at low speeds and provides greater stability at high speeds.
The 911 Targa 4S comes standard with rear-axle steering.
As with all current-generation 911 Carrera Coupe models, the Carrera 4S comes as a two-seater, with the additional rear seats available as a no-cost option. The Cabriolet and Targa models come with the rear seat options as standard.

The new models also come with an upgraded interior that features standard extended leather upholstery on the seats, headrests, upper dashboard, upper door panels, and rear seats (when equipped on the Carrera 4S coupe). Additionally, Matrix Design LED headlights and wireless smartphone charging are also standard.
The new 911 models are expected to arrive at dealerships in the 4th quarter of 2025.

60 Years of the 911 Targa
911 Targa 4S
For 60 years now, Porsche has offered a 911 Targa model that combines the enjoyment of a convertible with the year-round comfort of a coupe. The 911 first debuted in September 1965 at the IAA Frankfurt show with an elegant Targa bar inspired by motorsport. As so many Porsche features often are. The name originates from the famous Targa Florio race in Sicily, offering an open-air sensation with the added benefit of a fixed bar.
The Targa models have become an icon of Porsche and have undergone technical and formal development over the past six decades. The 993 generation introduced a roof that no longer required manual removal, and since 2006, the 911 Targa has been available exclusively with all-wheel drive.
The current Targa roof, which debuted in 2014, has brought back the iconic bar that was on the original Targa and can now open in just 19 seconds. The rear glass window lifts and moves backwards to allow the roof panel to fold away the roof segment. The wide Targa bar forms a clear reminiscence of the original model, and the roof is available in four color variants: black, blue, red, and brown.
