Genesis Blows Us Away Again with X Gran Equator Concept
Genesis X Gran Equator
Genesis releases its latest concept in the X family, proving once again that it has what it takes to move upmarket.
Genesis is on an absolute roll with its X concepts, and while the X Gran Equator might not be as production-ready as the recently unveiled X Gran Coupe and the X Gran Convertible, it sure is just as stunning. But let’s start with the elephant in the room. It certainly looks to have drawn inspiration from the Bentley EXP 9 F, which previewed the Bentayga. Which, to us, is a good thing as we actually prefer the original concept.

The Genesis X Gran Equator debuted at the New York Auto Show and conveys the brand’s first “adventure vehicle concept.” The idea was to take Genesis’ current “Athletic Elegance” design language and embrace the rugged spirit of overlanding, a cult that is currently growing in numbers. This is showcased by the long hood, sleek cabin, and fast C-pillars, which create an awesome silhouette that mixes GT and SUV vibes. The Genesis X Gran Equator also features dark wheel-arch cladding and 24” beadlock wheels to showcase its off-road readiness. To keep with the Genesis design language, the vehicle features geometric auxiliary lamps and a split-opening tailgate to practically blend with the brand’s signature Two-Line headlamps.

Interior
The interior does something so bold and bucks the current trends of automotive design that it feels like a breath of fresh air. It has no screens. And wow, does it look so good. At the center of the cabin are four-circle display clusters on the center stack that were inspired by vintage camera dials. The interior continues the exterior theme of contrasts and features contrasting shapes and colors with a preference for geometric over organic elements. The dashboard has been designed to be linear, allowing the driver to embrace the journey. At the same time, the front seats are swiveling.
Genesis X Gran Equator
The name Equator was chosen because it is recognized as the “finest stallion” in the world of Arabian horses, symbolizing endurance, agility, and refined power. These qualities are reflected in the spirit of the concept, which Genesis describes as “a vehicle that is both elegant and capable, engineered to perform in extreme conditions while maintaining a natural sense of grace.”
Sadly Genesis makes note: “While not confirmed for production, its design language and innovative features — such as the integrated roof rails and split-opening tailgate — showcase the brand’s future design potential.” A real disappointment as we would most likely purchase one of these today if it were available.
The Genesis X Gran Equator Concept will be on display at the 2025 New York International Auto Show starting April 18th and after the show at Genesis house New York in the Meatpacking District until the end of July.
